Echo is a science-fiction stealth game in which you take on the role of En, a young woman trying to revive a dead loved one. To achieve this, she must navigate her way through a labyrinth filled with ever-evolving creatures that mimic her actions. Controlling what these enemies learn from you -- and managing En's scarce energy resources -- is the key to victory in this complex and compelling game.
Make your enemies smarter
Echo is a game that requires patience, planning, and the ability to master the enemy's behaviour. Periodically, the enemies in the labyrinth will shut down. When they come back online, their tactics will have changed, incorporating whatever they've learned from you in the last activation. If you shot a lot of enemies, they'll learn to shoot you too; use stealth to kill them and they'll become sneakier. Gradually, they'll forget things you don't use. Essentially, you teach the enemy AI as you play, and keeping track of what it's learning from you will be vital to success. You'll also need to keep an eye on the energy En uses to power her weapons and abilities: you can collect energy around the labyrinth, but there isn't a huge amount of it.
Challenging and innovative
Echo is an interesting game with a unique core mechanic. Visually, it gets a little repetitive after a while, but the gameplay is complex and engaging.
